My best-online-friend-forever, No Cool Story, (don’t let her low-position on my links sidebar fool you, I just can’t figure out how to get those suckers to line up in alpha order.  ABC Momma, Heather? Can I get some help here?) has tagged me to do this fun little meme.  I was so surprised she tagged me since I’ve ditched out on the last few memes that have come my way.  Thanks for still having faith in me BOFF!

What do you like most about where you live?

Well that’s a tough one since we’ve only been here a month.  I love big cities and all the movement and life that goes along with living in one.  One thing I have noticed about Big City Mexico is that for being such a huge city, people are really friendly.  They smile easily in the streets and in the stores.  I couldn’t say that about the other big cities we’ve lived in: Washington D.C. and Caracas, Venezuela.

And, they have Krispy Kremes here!!

Is there something strange about where you live?

Sure.  People drive like maniacs (seeing a car driving in reverse down the middle of the road doesn’t phase anyone here). The traffic is horrible and at times totally random.  City zoning/planning is non-existent.  They don’t have chocolate chips (Nestle Tollhouse is missing out on some serious Mexican revenue.  Most gringos I know bring back suitcases filled with chocolate chips).  People just expect to be mugged.

What’s one of your all time favorite albums and why?

Tough one.  I’m one of those geeky parents whose taste in music hasn’t progressed since I got married.  So, I’ll have to pick from over 10 years ago.  I loved Pearl Jam’s "10" and U2’s "Auchtung Baby".  Why? Just fun songs to sing along with.

Did you have a passion for something as a kid that you still have now? (If not - what is one of your passions now?),

Hmmmm. I still love school even though I’m not a student.  I think I could be an eternal student and be happy as a clam.  I have always been athletic and still am (well, not right now because of the little one; all energy is used running to the bathroom and heaving).

What do you like most about having a blog?

I love having a blog because I don’t have the best memory and I blog about things I wouldn’t necessarily put in a journal.  Especially funny little things about my kids.  I love my life and my family and want to remember all the funny/interesting/unique/trying moments!

I’ve seen this meme quite a few times out there, but if you haven’t done it and want to, consider yourself tagged by me!

  1. When we lived in Costa Rica, my dad would go to Panama (and because of the canal zone, they got a ton of American stuff) and would bring back Nestle Choco. chips buy the suitcase full. So things haven’t changed much in 20 plus years!

  2. I knew you had lots of interesting things to write about (and had lost of faith in you).
No Tollhouse? Well at least there’s Krispy K.
I love reading about all the funny things about your kids and all your international adventures. You are a pretty cool person I’d like to meet someday.

    PS. Please never get mugged.

  3. Seriously, no chocolate chips? Yikes!

“SHE MOVES IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS!” Actually “You’re So Cruel” is my favorite off Achtung. Just “Achtung” itself is fun to say.

It was fun to read your post! :)

I can’t imagine not being able to buy chocolate chips. They are totally my back up chocolate fix source!

  5. I’d be a happy eternal student too, my main problem in college is I couldn’t pick between all the things I wanted to study!

BTW I changed my comments settings

  6. (and had lost of faith in you)
Is my face red. Ok, that meant to read “had LOTS of faith is you”, and so boys and girls, this is what happens when you don’t proof read what you wrote before hitting the little “Say It!” button.

  8. I think it’s great that you love the city life. I’m a country girl and avoid cities, but I enjoy reading about your adventures :-)

  9. Auchtung!, kill me now: “had LOTS of faith is you” meant to read “faith IN you”.
What is wrong wih me? people are going to think “that’s your BOFF?? sheesh Gabs, we thought we knew you better” or something like that.
Lo siento. I’ll go away now. In shame.
I’ll just eat some peeps on my way out.

  10. I have chocolate chips! Nah Nah na Nah naaa!! (We have hersheys brand, not tollhouse- but I’ll take whatever I can get!) I find them at HEB and Walmart. But I still can’t find brown sugar so the “homemade” chocolate chip cookies suck. So I turn to costco bakery instead and buy their Otis Spunkmeyer cookies…. YUM!!

  11. Well at least that beeping sound when your car in on reverse when you’re about to hit something will come in handy when you decide to drive backwards too!I am totally envious about Krispy Kreme!

  12. Boy I’m gone for two months and there are all these changes! Nice to see you are well in la capital.

Oh your posts bring back so many memories — the crazy driving, the hoards of people, the fascination with being mugged. Our ward in Cholula convinced us to hang on tight to our 2 year old daughter or someone would steal her away! We were in Mexico City for a week and all was fine. (Then again I didn’t have to drive anywhere.)

Have you been to the zoo yet? Is it still free? How about the temple? It is amazing to me that in the hustle and craziness of the city, the temple is still peaceful and lovely.
